2025. Mauro Basilio: MECHANICS – StuDioFa music publishing

The defining features of improvised music performances are uniqueness, unpredictability, and fragility. These qualities stand in contrast to a fundamental principle of the music industry: the replicability of the artwork.

MECHANICS explores a way to preserve these characteristics, joining the uniqueness of improvised music with the reproducibility of a physical medium.
Although the packaging is serialized, each copy contains a different recording.
The album is a work in progress — an ongoing musical flow that moves from one device to another, from one listener to another.

Each physical media contains 2 or 3 tracks, depending on their length. They are randomly selected and do not appear on any other copy of the MECHANICS album.
Just the last track is the same across all copies: it’s « Antinodes », whose main theme is the musical transcription of a mechanically generated progressive wave.

To realize this uncommon project, Mauro Basilio gives birth to his own record label, named StuDioFa.
