Mauro Basilio’s prepared cello in the original soundtrack of the TV show by Peacock. Musics composed by Leopold Ross and Nick Chuba. MECHANICS, from ancient Greek Μηχανική, “The art of building a machine”
is a solo performance for prepared cello that emerges from an ongoing exploration of objects, materials, and assemblies. It seeks to develop new extended techniques, experiment with creative processes, and discover unheard sounds and unexpected behaviors of the instrument.
Mauro Basilio applies various unstable physical systems to his cello—vibrating, bouncing, and rotating objects that interfere with the musical gesture and introduce elements of chance. Electric motors, pegs, sticks, and everyday items are repurposed as extensions of the instrument, turning it into a kind of automaton that produces a responsive soundscape to comply with.

A new track and video for the series LOCKDOWN DIY PRODUCTIONS.

As usual, and as obliged in these strange times, everything is played, recorded, mixed by Mauro Basilio. The video is made of excerpts of old movies on the theme “belly dance”.
As an effect of lockdown, Mauro Basilio found himself obliged to create in solitude. This is the first track of a work-in-progress project, for soloist oud and other instruments.
Initially, it’s totally selfproduced : Mauro Basilio composes, plays all the instruments, records and mixes them. The video too is selfproduced, filmed just with a smartphone.
This first phase of the project takes the name of “Oud It Yourself”.
Then, another phase of the project will follow, in which the same tracks and others will be played by Mauro Basilio’s band.
Looking forward to when live music will be possible again.
